Dr. William C. (Bill) Hobson, Ph.D, ERI Scientific Director

Bill grew up on a working cattle ranch on the front range of Colorado. He received a B.S. in Animal Science from Colorado State University and a Ph.D in physiology and endocrinology from Cornell University. During his 30-year career in animal research Bill was director of the International Center of Environmental Safety and the Primate Research Institute in New Mexico, and founder, President and CEO of Sierra Biomedical Inc. a human and animal drug and vaccine development company with more than 400 employees in Reno, Nevada. He is author of a number of book chapters and more than 90 research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. During his research career he played key roles in development of the first drugs for treatment of AIDS and in development of vaccines for Hepatitis A, B and C. He is an avid outdoorsman and is deeply concerned both about the potentially disastrous consequences of CWD for the nation's elk and deer herds, and about the ever-increasing potential for spread of prion disease from wildlife to domestic animals.
